Sheriff Warns Against Timeline Rumors as Unstamped Doorbell Images Fuel Nancy Guthrie Case Speculation

PCSD says backpack changes in doorbell images do not prove separate days; Fox News reports the FBI has not commented.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos on Monday pushed back on online claims that newly circulated doorbell images prove the masked suspect in the Nancy Guthrie investigation visited her home on multiple days, saying the pictures do not contain a date or time stamp.

In a statement posted by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the agency said it is aware the doorbell images released earlier in the case show the suspect “in different stages of attire,” including frames with and without a backpack. Because the images are not time-stamped, the department said any suggestion they were taken on different days is “purely speculative,” adding that the investigation will be guided by verifiable evidence.

The clarification comes after media outlets and social media users highlighted an image showing the suspect at the front door without a backpack, fueling theories that the person may have been scouting the home ahead of the suspected abduction.

In response to Fox News reporting, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department initially deferred comment to the FBI, then issued a statement emphasizing that authorities have not released timestamps on the Nest video, the outlet said.

The FBI has not yet responded to a request by Fox News for comment.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on Feb. 1 after she did not return to normal routines in the Tucson area. Authorities have said they believe she was taken from her home, and the FBI has been assisting the investigation and seeking public tips.
