Russian military officials confirmed that a serviceman broke gun safety rules at a military base in the Moscow region overnight Thursday and shot a contract soldier to death before killing himself.
The Moscow Military District’s press staff says the event happened on the night of October 17, 2025, while the serviceman was on duty at a lookout station.
“The ministry said that on the night of October 17, 2025, a soldier at a lookout post in a military unit in the Moscow region broke the rules for handling firearms and killed a contract soldier.”
According to Interfax, the soldier killed himself after the shooting.
A group from the High Command of the Russian Aerospace Forces has been sent to the location to look into what happened. There is an inquiry going on, and Russian officials have initiated a criminal case, according to Interfax report.
The military district didn’t say who was involved or give any more information on what happened that caused the infringement of gun safety rules.
