Foreign Secretary Misri confirms Modi clarified India’s position during 35-minute call with Trump

    Highlights:
    • PM Modi spoke with President Trump over a phone call lasting approximately 35 minutes
    • Modi clarified India never discussed a US-mediated trade or Pakistan peace deal
    • Talks on ceasefire were held directly between Indian and Pakistani militaries
    • India will now treat terrorism as an act of war, not proxy conflict
    • Modi declined Trump’s meeting invitation due to scheduling conflicts

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a detailed telephonic conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, lasting approximately 35 minutes, during which he categorically denied any discussion about a trade deal or third-party mediation between India and Pakistan, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

“PM Modi told President Trump clearly that during this entire series of incidents, never were talks held at any level on India-America trade deal and mediation between India and Pakistan by America,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, as reported by ANI News.

Misri stated that Prime Minister Modi firmly reiterated that any negotiations related to a cessation of military action were conducted directly between Indian and Pakistani militaries via established communication channels, and these talks were initiated at Pakistan’s request.

During the call, Modi also briefed Trump on the Indian military’s recent Operation Sindoor, clarifying that no component of the operation was connected to India-US trade discussions. He emphasized that India has never accepted and will not accept third-party mediation on issues involving Pakistan.

“India will now treat acts of terrorism not as proxy actions but as acts of war,” said Foreign Secretary Misri, summarizing PM Modi’s new stance.

While President Trump invited PM Modi to meet during his current U.S. visit, the Prime Minister was unable to accept due to a pre-scheduled commitment. However, both leaders expressed their intent to meet in the near future to further strengthen bilateral ties.
