Minab girls’ school attack toll rises to 63 dead, 92 hurt, Iran says

Minab girls’ school attack figures rose, officials said, as rescue and debris removal continued.

Iranian authorities announced on Sunday that the death toll from the Minab girls’ school attack had risen to 63 killed and 92 injured. There are still children who are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

The special governor of Minab County in Iran’s Hormuzgan province, Mohammad Radmehr, was quoted by the Iranian news agency IRNA as saying that the death toll had risen to 63 killed and 92 injured by 5 p.m. on Saturday. He also said that the city was under the authorities’ control and was calm in other parts.

The death toll had been previously announced at 40 killed and 48 injured before the latest figures were announced.

The political, security, and social deputy of the Hormuzgan province in Iran announced that the girls’ elementary school in the province, named Shajareh Tayyebeh, had 170 students in the morning shift when the attack took place.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced in a statement that U.S. forces, in addition to the Israeli forces, carried out air operations targeting Iranian territories “during negotiations,” and the Iranian forces started a “crushing response.” The Supreme National Security Council also asked the Iranian people to stay calm and announced the preparation of the required supplies. It also announced the closure of schools and universities until further notice and the operation of the offices at 50%. Banks are also operational.

The strike on the girls’ elementary school in the Iranian province of Minab was announced by international news agencies such as Al Jazeera in addition to the Iranian news agencies.
