Macron Says France Ready to Support U.S.-Iran Agreement Efforts

France says it is prepared to support implementation, maritime security efforts and broader negotiations if Washington and Tehran reach a deal.

French President Emmanuel Macron said France is ready to support efforts led by President Trump to reach an agreement between the United States and Iran.

Macron said he spoke with Trump about the Middle East and commended what he described as determined efforts to quickly reach an agreement with Iran. He said such an agreement could create a new security framework involving all concerned parties and help stabilize the region.

France is prepared to “fully support” the effort and take part in implementation if an agreement is reached, Macron said.

He said an international mission developed with Britain and other partners is ready to deploy once an agreement is concluded. The mission would help secure maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Macron.

France is prepared to contribute expertise and capabilities to broader negotiations, including the nuclear aspects of any agreement, the president said.

The French president also praised Trump’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Macron said he stressed the importance of a robust ceasefire and continued support for Lebanese authorities.
