Kyiv drone barrage kills at least 3, injures dozens, Zelenskyy says

Zelenskyy reports at least three dead and dozens injured after an overnight drone barrage on Kyiv; officials urge tighter G7-aligned sanctions.

Ukraine’s emergency crews worked through the morning in Kyiv after a large overnight drone attack damaged apartment buildings across several districts and left at least three people dead and dozens injured, including children, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on X.

Zelenskyy said Russia launched “more than 100” drones at Ukraine during the night, describing the strikes as part of a broader campaign aimed at “ordinary life,” with residential buildings and civilian infrastructure repeatedly targeted this week. He offered condolences to the families of those killed and said all necessary emergency services were deployed at impact sites across the capital.

The foreign ministry echoed the account, calling it “another night of terror” for Kyiv and reporting at least three dead and many more wounded after drones hit civilian areas where residents were asleep, according to the MFA Ukraine on X. The ministry said over 100 drones were launched in the attack.

Zelenskyy framed the overnight strikes within a week of heavy bombardment nationwide, saying Russia used nearly 1,200 attack drones, more than 1,360 guided aerial bombs, and over 50 missiles in recent days. He added that Ukraine “continued to defend itself actively” in the air, on the front lines, and through diplomacy

He also talked about how the economy was putting more and more pressure on Moscow, including the European Union’s 19th sanctions package and new U.S. measures aimed at Russian oil. He asked partners to make sure that penalties were the same across the G7 and beyond. Additional tariff and sanctions restrictions are needed on Russia and those enabling it, he said, arguing that sustained pressure “will help bring about peace.”

Officials warned that the number of casualties could grow as rescue and damage assessments continue. MFA Ukraine noted that Russia “will not stop on its own,” which is what Kyiv has been asking for: harsher, more coordinated sanctions and more support.
