The Kremlin stated on Monday that U.S. weapons deliveries to Ukraine have never ceased and are expected to continue, with European allies now likely covering the cost. President Trump has reportedly proposed sending offensive weapons to Kyiv while shifting payment responsibility to the EU.
Russia expects the United States to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine despite growing concerns over costs and long-term strategy. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said during a press briefing on Monday that arms deliveries from Washington to Kyiv have not stopped and are unlikely to do so, the Russian state media TASS reported.
“Numerous statements were voiced about the high cost and so on, but now it seems that these supplies will be paid for by Europe,” Peskov told reporters. “Some will be paid for, some will not, but the fact is that the supply of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to Ukraine from the United States has continued and will persist.”
Trump’s Plan Shifts Costs to Europe
President Donald Trump recently announced that the United States would send additional arms to Ukraine, including missiles for the Patriot defense systems, but made it clear that the European Union should reimburse the cost. The statement represents a pragmatic shift in funding responsibility while maintaining strategic U.S. support.
According to a report by Axios, Trump is preparing to unveil a broader plan to arm Ukraine with offensive weapons after meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The move, if confirmed, would represent a significant evolution in Trump’s approach to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Kremlin Expects Increased EU Involvement
Peskov’s comments suggest that Moscow is preparing for deeper European involvement in military financing for Ukraine. While acknowledging ongoing arms shipments, the Kremlin appears to be recalibrating its expectations toward Europe’s role in the conflict.
