Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a full ceremonial welcome from King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Friday, including a guard of honor in the Quadrangle before a private audience, according to the Royal Family.
The Ukrainian president thanked the United Kingdom for its “unwavering support” and briefed the King on battlefield conditions and humanitarian needs, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.
After the Windsor meeting, Zelenskyy headed to 10 Downing Street to confer with Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of a London gathering of the “coalition of the willing,” where NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European leaders discussed increased military aid and economic pressure on Russia. NATO confirmed Rutte’s visit to London to CBS News. British broadcasters aired live images of Zelenskyy and Starmer together as the day’s events began. The UK signaled a fresh push on air defenses, with the government set to accelerate delivery of more than 100 additional long-range missiles to Ukraine ahead of winter, according to a government release reported by CBS News.
Friday’s ceremony at Windsor underscored continued British support as Ukraine braces for intensified Russian strikes during colder months. Posts from the Royal Family highlighted the royal salute and inspection of the Guard before the private audience.
Zelenskyy’s office said he also noted Princess Anne’s recent humanitarian visit to Kyiv and its focus on children and families affected by the war.
Coalition participants were expected to issue additional announcements on military packages and economic measures later Friday, with discussions touching on long-range capabilities, tighter controls on Russian oil, and potential use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
