Guilfoyle Signals End of Greece Ambassadorship, Calls Allegations False

Her post on X follows weeks of reports on her conduct and an inspector general review

Kimberly Guilfoyle’s run as U.S. ambassador to Greece looks to be over.

Guilfoyle wrote on X that her time in Athens “may be coming to an end.” In the same post she called the allegations against her false and said she would “vigorously defend” her name.

What exactly she’s accused of, she didn’t say. The post also left open whether she stepped down or was let go, and when she leaves.

Much of it read as a farewell. Guilfoyle thanked President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, said she’d always back Trump, and thanked Greeks for taking her in.

She took credit, too, for several things the embassy worked on during her tenure. The list included deals that would send more U.S. liquefied natural gas to Europe and the Vertical Corridor, an energy route she said would wean Europe off Russian energy.

Background

The trouble started in late September with a series of Wall Street Journal stories.

The most serious, based on text messages, said Guilfoyle asked a Trump donor to pay off a $100,000 credit card bill days before her confirmation hearing — and offered him access to administration officials if he did. Her lawyer told the paper she disputes the messages are authentic. Earlier reporting questioned her role in energy deals in Greece.

Washington’s patience appeared to be thinning by the weekend. On Sunday a U.S. official told The Associated Press that Trump and Rubio were weighing whether to fire her and would probably decide this week. A second official said the State Department’s inspector general had begun looking into the claims.

On Capitol Hill, Rep. Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has given her until Oct. 22 to hand over financial records and correspondence.

Guilfoyle is a former Fox News host and California prosecutor. She was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. for several years.
