James Farthing, the Georgetown, Kentucky, man tied to the state’s record $167.3 million Powerball jackpot, was arrested again and charged with intimidating a participant in the legal process, as reported by WKYT.
The new case stemmed from a Feb. 11 call to a home after a woman told deputies that people there had a weapon and wanted to hurt her, WKYT reported. Investigators said officers found marijuana and a gun when they arrived. The woman told police she had been picked up by Farthing for a prearranged meeting and felt pressured by him to take a “gummy,” according to WKYT.
WKYT reported that while the woman was being questioned, Farthing allegedly texted her: “Why would you do this to me? Unreal. I’d never hurt you.” He was due in court April 2, WKYT reported.
Farthing drew national attention in spring 2025 after Kentucky’s largest Powerball prize was claimed. A Kentucky Lottery feature published on the official Powerball site said Linda Grizzle and her son, Shannon Farthing, both of Georgetown, claimed the $167.3 million jackpot on April 28, 2025.
Days later, Farthing was arrested in Pinellas County, Florida, after deputies responded to a fight at the TradeWinds Resort and said he kicked a deputy while the deputy tried to break it up.
In the Florida case, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office later released deputy-worn body camera video showing the moment deputies said Farthing kicked a deputy during the April 29, 2025 incident at the resort. Deputies also said Farthing tried to run before being stopped with a taser, and he faced charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting or obstructing arrest, and battery, as reported by FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
