    Kantipur Newsroom Torched in Thapathali; eKantipur Taken Offline

    Kantipur reports its Thapathali newsroom was destroyed by arson, taking eKantipur offline.

    VT Kathmandu– Nepal’s Kantipur media online platform, eKantipur, is down after demonstrators ignited fires at its Thapathali headquarters on Tuesday.

    Kantipur says that protesters broke into the Thapathali office of the Kantipur Media Group and set it on fire. Staff stated that the computers were turned to ash and the newsroom was burned down.

    The fire broke the server that runs the eKantipur online edition, thus the outlet said they had to stop publishing. According to staff reports and updates on Kantipur’s Facebook page, the paper’s online platform, eKantipur, is down after demonstrators ignited fires at its Thapathali headquarters.

    While engineers look at the damage, the outlet is posting news on its Facebook page. There is yet no precise information on the damage or the number of injuries.

    The youth-led Gen-Z movement accelerated amid widespread anger over corruption, heavy security crackdowns, and poor governance. Violence, arson, and vandalism have been reported across Kathmandu and other major cities in recent days. Local officials and hospitals have confirmed multiple deaths and hundreds of injuries as demonstrations intensified. Government buildings and the homes of senior politicians have been attacked, while curfews and heightened security measures were enforced in parts of the capital.
