Taylor has scored seven touchdowns in five games (six running and one receiving), which is the most by a Colt in the first five games of a season, according to the Colts’ official site. This ties him with Marvin Harrison (1999) and Don McCauley (1977). The organization also said that Taylor’s current pace of 24 touchdowns will break his own record of 20 established in 2021. Since LaDainian Tomlinson set the record of 31 in 2006, no other NFL player has topped 24.
According to ESPN, head coach Shane Steichen said Taylor was “the best back in the league right now.” Daniel Jones, the quarterback, remarked, “JT’s playing at an unbelievable level,” and the Colts quoted him as saying that the blocking in front of him was good.
Taylor ran for 66 yards on 17 carries, mostly in the red zone. He also talked about the line’s work: “They’re the best in the league at this…” The Colts said, “We’re trying to be as efficient as possible because they do a lot of the heavy lifting.”
According to Reuters, the Colts lost kicker Spencer Shrader to a knee injury following a roughing-the-kicker penalty and relied on two-point tries. On the other hand, the Las Vegas Raiders lost punter A.J. Cole after a blocked punt caused kicker Daniel Carlson to step in as an emergency kicker. Indianapolis won its fourth game and stayed perfect at home.
