Police stated Friday that Jadeveon Clowney, a former South Carolina Gamecock and NFL defensive end, was detained on September 12 in his hometown of Rock Hill after a fight over parking at an apartment complex near a high school football game. He is charged with two misdemeanors: trespassing and not giving his name.
Local news outlet WSO TV says that a Rock Hill police report says the occurrence happened at Dunbar Place Apartments, where an off-duty officer was stopping people who didn’t live there from parking during the game. When Clowney’s car got to the lot, the police asked him why he was there. He originally said he was there for the game, but then he said he was visiting his aunt who lives in the building. Police said that he was told he couldn’t park there if he didn’t reside there, and then he was “trespassed” from the property. He responded no when the cops asked for ID, which got him arrested.
Clowney, 32, told reporters that he plans to fight the allegations and that the whole thing is frustrating. He said that the event was a mistake.
Dallas revealed a few days before the arrest that it had signed Clowney as a veteran edge rusher for the 2025 season. Earlier this week, team officials announced the change.
Clowney was a star at South Carolina and was the first choice in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has played for a number of teams throughout the course of his career, including Carolina last season and Dallas this month.
There were no injuries. On Friday, court dates and other case facts were not accessible right away. The authorities noted that both allegations are misdemeanors and that Clowney is innocent unless proven guilty.
