IRGC Claims Kheibar Missile Strike on Netanyahu’s Office as Israel Denies Reports PM Fled

Tehran says Kheibar missiles hit Netanyahu’s office; Israel has not confirmed the claim.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Monday it launched Kheibar ballistic missiles targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office and the place of stay of Israeli Air Force Commander Tomer Bar, a claim not confirmed by Israeli authorities.

In a statement published on its official outlet Sepah News and cited by Xinhua, the IRGC said the “targeted and surprise” attacks were carried out during what it described as the 10th wave of strikes.

“The office of the criminal Israeli PM, Netanyahu, and the location of the regime’s Air Force commander were struck in targeted and surprise attacks by Kheybar Shekan ballistic missiles during the 10th wave,” the IRGC said in a statement on Telegram. A separate statement carried by Fars News Agency said, “The office of the criminal prime minister of the Zionist regime and the headquarters of the regime’s air force commander were targeted.”

In its report, Xinhua quoted the IRGC as saying the strikes involved “Kheibar” missiles, which are homegrown and were unveiled and test-launched in May 2023. The report said the missiles have a range of 2,000 kilometers and can carry a 1,500 kg warhead. The group also said Netanyahu’s fate is “unknown” and promised to make further announcements.

There has not been any confirmation yet from Israel about Netanyahu’s offices or facilities related to Tomer Bar being attacked.

Earlier Monday, social media reports emerged claiming Netanyahu had fled to Germany. However, the reports have now been found false, with the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announcing Netanyahu met the defense minister, the chief of staff, and the Mossad director in Tel Aviv on Sunday, March 1.

The exchange follows joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities on Saturday, which killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, members of his family, senior commanders, and civilians. Iran has since launched multiple waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. bases across the region.
