Iran Fires Missiles at U.S. Bases Across Gulf, Strikes Near Fifth Fleet in Bahrain

Missile activity across Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, and Kuwait adds pressure for urgent diplomacy as the conflict expands.

Iran launched missiles at U.S. military bases across the Gulf on Saturday. Among the attacks was one near the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The air defense systems in the region lit up the sky, and explosions were reportedly heard in several nations.

The Iranian retaliatory strikes came after the U.S. and Israeli forces carried out a series of air attacks on Iranian strategic and military sites in an effort to reduce the Iranian missile and nuclear capabilities. President Trump called the U.S. strikes on Iran “major combat operations.”

The Qatari Defense Ministry said in a statement that the nation’s air defense systems intercepted missiles targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, which is the largest U.S. base in the region.

Other nations in the region, such as the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, also witnessed the missiles in the skies as the conflict spread from Israel and Iran.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said the country’s air defense systems intercepted a second wave of Iranian missiles launched toward the UAE, adding that the response was carried out efficiently and that no damage was reported.

The ministry said it remains on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any threats, stressing that it is taking all necessary steps to protect the country’s security and stability. It added that the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors is its top priority.

According to the ministry, debris from the intercepted missiles fell in several scattered areas of Abu Dhabi, including Saadiyat Island, Khalifa City, Bani Yas, Mohammed bin Zayed City, and Al Falah. It said there were no injuries reported in those locations.

The ministry described the attack as a clear violation of national sovereignty and international law, and said it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its territory and people. It also urged the public to rely on official sources and avoid spreading rumors or unverified information.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed on the social media site X that the United States and Israel started an illegal war and that Iran’s military could strike back. The Foreign Ministry in Saudi Arabia condemned the Iranian aggression against several of its neighbors in a statement released on the Twitter handle KSAmofaEN.

French President Emmanuel Macron called the outbreak of the war a serious threat to international security. France is pressing for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting, Macron said in a statement on Emmanuel Macron.

As of Saturday morning, the full extent of the damage in Bahrain and other places was not clear.
