Iran’s Foreign Ministry Confirms Receipt of U.S. Negotiation Topics

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that it received a list of proposed negotiation topics from the United States through an international mediator, as President Donald Trump said he had paused planned military strikes on Iranian energy sites.

A high-ranking Iranian official told the BBC that Tehran is looking over the proposal as both sides think about going back to the negotiating table. On Monday, Trump told reporters in Florida that he had put planned attacks on Iranian energy sites on hold for the time being to make way for talks.

Trump said the pause was intended to support efforts to end the current standoff. He also said he believed a “total resolution” was possible and claimed he had been in contact with a senior Iranian leader.

Iran has responded more cautiously. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi publicly rejected Trump’s description of the contacts and initially denied that official negotiations were underway.

CBS News was the first to report that the list of subjects was designed to be a starting point for talks between the two countries. However, officials from both sides have claimed that a formal meeting has not yet been set.

The talks came after tensions escalated about the possibility of U.S. attacks on Iran’s energy and electrical infrastructure. Trump suggested that the suspension in military action would depend on how well the initial talks go.

Iranian officials are continuing their internal review of the U.S. proposal, and no formal talks have been announced.
