Washington Sundar hit 49 runs off 23 balls to steer India to a five-wicket win over Australia and square the T20I series 1–1.
Chasing 187, India finished 188/5 in 18.3 overs after a brisk start and a mid-innings wobble. Abhishek Sharma cracked 25 off 16 up top before Nathan Ellis removed him and vice-captain Shubman Gill (15). Captain Suryakumar Yadav added a lively 24, while Tilak Varma (17) and Axar Patel (29) kept the chase on track. Sundar closed it out with four sixes and three fours, turning the game in the final stretch. Ellis led Australia’s attack with 3/36; Xavier Bartlett chipped in late.
Earlier, Australia posted 186/6 after slipping to 14/2 when Arshdeep Singh, back in the XI, nicked off Travis Head and Josh Inglis. Tim David (74 off 38) and Marcus Stoinis (64 off 39) counterpunched to rebuild the innings. Varun Chakravarthy applied the brakes with 2/33 through the middle, and Arshdeep finished with 3/35. A dropped chance on David proved costly before India clawed back control.
The result sends the series to the Gold Coast with momentum nudging India. Maxwell and other senior names remained managed for workload and could come into selection focus for the fourth T20I, Cricket Australia said.
