Hyundai reports 17% sales fall in November amid chip shortage

Hyundai Motor Company Wednesday announced global sales results for November 2021. The company sold 312,602 units globally last month, a decrease of 17.1% from a year earlier.

The company sold 250,531 units outside of Korea, down 18.4% from a year earlier, Hyundai said in a statement.

Despite a slight upward movement in the European market sales, overall sales decreased mainly because of disruption in the global semiconductor part supply and the impact caused by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the company added.

Sales in Korea decreased 11.4% Y/y to 62,071 units. Although total sales are down from the previous year, various SUV and Genesis luxury brand models created sales momentum with a total of 31,862 units in Hyundai’s home market, it said.

Year to date, Hyundai is recording 5.4% increase in global sales year over year reflecting the company’s strong product line-up, the company said.

The carmakers are planning to gradually phase out combustion-engine cars in global markets as governments are adopting more aggressive policies to fight climate change.
