Teen Charged After Two Men Wounded in Hybla Valley Shooting

Police say the teenager surrendered Oct. 1; detectives are investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

A 16-year-old boy faces a firearm charge after two men were wounded in a Sept. 29 shooting in Hybla Valley, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The teenager surrendered Oct. 1 at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with willfully discharging a firearm in a public place causing injury and remained in custody, police said.

Officers responding around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 29 found a man with a lower-body gunshot wound in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway. Another man was found nearby with an upper-body gunshot wound.

Both men were taken to a local hospital. Police described their injuries as non-life-threatening.

According to the department’s preliminary findings, the teenager and the men knew one another, and the shooting occurred during a verbal argument. Detectives identified the teenager as the suspected shooter.

The police account of the circumstances surrounding the shooting has not been independently verified.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau are investigating. The bureau’s victim services specialists have been assigned to help the wounded men obtain resources and assistance.
