British Transport Police said a 32-year-old man has been charged after 11 people were injured in a stabbing attack on a London-bound train Saturday evening. Anthony Williams faces 10 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm and one count of possessing a bladed article, following what police called a “major incident” at Huntingdon railway station.
Police said the attack unfolded on the 6:25 p.m. LNER service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. Officers boarded the train at Huntingdon and arrested a suspect within eight minutes of the first emergency call. Investigators applauded a member of rail staff who stepped in; some victims had to go to the hospital.
Authorities also said that the investigation is still going on and that detectives are looking at CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and witness statements. The case is being led by British Transport Police, with assistance from local forces.
Separately, officials said there is no indication the incident is terrorism-related. The transport minister noted the suspect was not known to counter-terrorism police or security services.
Williams is also being charged in connection with a different knife incident that happened earlier that day at London’s Pontoon Dock DLR station, when one victim was hurt in the face. He is due to return to court as the investigation proceeds.
