Hamas says it is ready for immediate talks after Trump’s ‘last warning’ on hostage deal

Group cites U.S. proposals for a Gaza cease-fire and signals openness to a prisoner-for-truce framework tied to ending the war and withdrawal.

Hamas said late Sunday it is ready to begin negotiations “immediately” following what President Donald Trump called a “last warning” to the group to accept terms for a hostage agreement, according to a statement by the Palestinian militant organization and reported by DPA.

Hamas said it had received “some ideas from the American side aimed at reaching a cease-fire agreement,” and added that it “welcomes any move that helps efforts to stop the aggression against our people,” according to the statement cited by DPA. The group said it is prepared to discuss “the release of all prisoners in exchange for a clear declaration to end the war, a total withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and creation of a committee of independent Palestinians to run the Gaza Strip.”

President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social account Sunday that “The Israelis have accepted my Terms,” without giving details, and urged Hamas to accept as well. “I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!” he posted. “Everyone wants the Hostages HOME. Everyone wants this War to end!”

The United States, Qatar and Egypt are mediating indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to halt the war and secure the release of captives, according to DPA. The conflict began after the Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas in which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 others were abducted, as reported by Israeli authorities.

According to Israeli sources, 48 hostages remain in Gaza, with 20 believed to be alive. Since the war began, more than 64,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory’s health authority controlled by Hamas—figures the United Nations considers credible.
