Multiple Hurt in Grand Blanc LDS Church Shooting; Fire Contained, Shooter Down

Police say the fire is contained and the shooter is down; 1 p.m. briefing at Grand Blanc Township PD, reunification at the Trillium Theater.

Multiple people were hurt Sunday in a shooting at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, and a fire broke out at the building, authorities said.

The Grand Blanc Township Police Department said in a Facebook update at 12:43 p.m. ET that “there are multiple victims and the shooter is down,” adding there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The department said the fire was contained and warned the public to keep clear. Names of those hurt weren’t released, with a 1 p.m. update planned at police headquarters.

Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson, speaking in a video recorded at the scene, called it “a dynamic” situation with details still developing. He reiterated there was no active threat to the community as investigators worked at the church on McCandlish Road.

Federal authorities said they were assisting. FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X that agents were on scene “to assist local authorities” and condemned “violence in a place of worship” as a criminal act.

Police initially directed on-site reunification to a nearby pavilion and off-site reunification to the Trillium Theater at Holly and McCandlish roads. In the 12:43 p.m. ET update, the department said reunification would occur at the Trillium Theater only.
