Nepal’s Home Ministry has begun issuing identity cards and establishing dedicated clinics to provide enhanced medical care for individuals injured during the recent Gen-Z youth movement, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The distribution of ID cards is intended to ensure that those injured in the demonstrations can access easy and seamless treatment. The Ministry reported that the cards will serve as the basis for receiving care.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal officially launched the distribution on Sunday at the National Trauma Centre. A circular was subsequently issued, instructing District Administration Offices across the nation to begin the ID card distribution starting Monday.
Dedicated Clinics and Free Transport
In addition to the identity cards, the government has established “Gen-Z Clinics” in hospitals as part of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ initiative. These dedicated units were created to ensure systematic follow-up care for the injured.
The Ministry reported that 16 hospitals across the country, including five in the Kathmandu Valley, now host these clinics. Furthermore, the Ministry announced that injured individuals would be provided with free transportation to and from the hospitals for their treatment.
Treatment Protocol and Focal Persons
To properly manage the diverse range of injuries, a task force is slated for formation. This body will be coordinated by expert doctors involved in the treatment process and will be responsible for classifying the injured, according to a minister. The Cabinet is expected to finalize a decision on this task force during its Sunday meeting.
For patients who require multiple follow-up appointments after their initial treatment, the Ministry of Health or the respective hospital will provide free ambulance services.
To further streamline access to care, hospitals have also designated focal persons to assist the Gen-Z movement injured with their treatment needs.
