Four Coffins of Deceased Hostages Cross Into Israel as Hamas Accused of Agreement Violation

Four coffins of deceased hostages cross into Israel; IDF cites transfer for identification as families demand suspension over alleged Hamas agreement violation.

The Israel Defense Forces say that four coffins with deceased hostages arrived into Israel on Monday. They are now being taken to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine to be identified.

Earlier in the day, the coffins crossed the border with the help of IDF and Israel Security Agency troops. During this time, IDF representatives are with the families of the dead.

The military asked the public to be sensitive and wait for official word on identities, which families will hear first.

Hamas said earlier on Monday that it will return the bodies of Bipin Joshi, Yossi Sharabi, Guy Illouz, and Daniel Peretz, according to The Jerusalem Post.

The IDF reported in a previous update that the Red Cross had received two coffins of dead hostages and was taking them to IDF and ISA forces in Gaza, where they had already received two more coffins.

The IDF said that Hamas must follow through on the agreement and do what’s necessary to return all the dead hostages back.

The Hostages Families Forum asked that any agreements be put on hold right away until all of the dead are brought back.

The forum added in a statement, “The government and the mediators must respond very seriously to Hamas’s breaking of the agreement.” “Both sides must keep their end of the deal. Israel shouldn’t do its share if Hamas doesn’t do its part.”

The forum said that all 28 hostages must be freed and promised not to stop fighting until the final captive is brought home.

Hamas had agreed earlier to release everyone it held—alive and dead.
