FBI Searches John Bolton’s Maryland home in secret papers probe: AP Report

AP: Search tied to classified-documents inquiry; no comment yet from Bolton’s counsel.

    BREAKING

According to the Associated Press, federal investigators are investigating John Bolton’s home in Maryland. Bolton was the national security adviser in President Donald Trump’s first administration but later became a critic. The search is part of an investigation into how secret papers were handled, the AP reported.

Someone who knew about the issue but wasn’t allowed to talk about it by name talked with AP journalist on the condition of anonymity. Messages left with a Bolton and White House official were not answered right away. A lawyer who has worked for Bolton didn’t have anything to say right away on Friday, according to AP news.

    Who is John Bolton?

John Robert Bolton, 76 , is a long-time American diplomat and foreign policy conservative who has held high-level positions in several Republican administrations over the past 40 years. Bolton was born on November 20, 1948. He became recognized for his conservative foreign policy opinions and direct diplomatic approach as a lawyer and diplomat.

Bolton worked for the government for the first time during the Reagan administration, when he was assistant attorney general from 1985 to 1989. From 1989 until 1993, he worked in the State Department as the assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs under President George H.W. Bush.

Bolton was the undersecretary of state for arms control and international security affairs from 2001 to 2005 under President George W. Bush. He played a big role in how the government dealt with concerns related to the spread of weapons. Bush made him the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in 2005 during a recess appointment. He only held the job until December 2006, when it became evident that the Senate, which was controlled by Democrats, would not approve him.

He was a major supporter of the Iraq War and was a director of the Project for the New American Century, a powerful neoconservative think tank. His hardline views on foreign policy, especially when it came to Iran and North Korea, shaped a lot of his career.

He served as National Security Advisor for President Trump’s first term from April 2018 to September 2019, most recently. During his time in office, he was able to convince the U.S. to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal in May 2018. Bolton, on the other hand, left because he and Trump disagreed on how to handle international policy, especially when it came to talks with North Korea.

After he left, Bolton became a well-known critic of Trump and wrote the best-selling memoir “The Room Where It Happened” in 2020. The book talked about his time in the Trump White House and led to lawsuits over the release of sensitive information.
