European Union officials will meet U.S. counterparts at the Treasury Department on Monday, Sept. 8, to discuss tightening economic pressure on Russia, including possible new sanctions, according to the Associated Press.
The delegation will be led by EU sanctions envoy David O’Sullivan and will include talks with the White House, State Department and U.S. Trade Representative, the AP reported. European Council President António Costa earlier said an EU team would travel to Washington to coordinate on Russia measures.
The agenda was not disclosed. Recent efforts have focused on closing loopholes and curbing sanctions evasion. After a visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Western governments were using the war’s fallout to advance their own economic aims, according to his remarks.
