Two people climbed to the top of the Empire State Building’s antenna on Wednesday, hung a peace banner and were arrested after coming back down, the Associated Press reported.
They reached the antenna’s tip around midday, news helicopter footage showed. The antenna rises 1,454 feet (443 meters) above midtown Manhattan.
Both wore black and masks and did not appear to be tethered.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the two began descending to a wider ledge, where one appeared to kneel and set up electronic equipment. The pair then embraced. The second person held out a hand as if examining a ring — an apparent engagement that has not been confirmed.
Police took both into custody just after 1 p.m. No one was injured, police said, and the climbers’ names were not immediately released.
It was not clear how the two reached the antenna, which sits well above the building’s public areas.
