- Historic turnout at DHS Career Expo in Chantilly, Virginia
- More than 1,000 job offers extended on-site to qualified candidates
- Applications to Border Patrol and Secret Service surge to record levels
- Event held despite political backlash and threats against law enforcement
CHANTILLY, VA — In a clear show of support for federal service, thousands of Americans gathered in Chantilly last week for the Department of Homeland Security’s 2025 Career Expo—marking one of the largest single-day law enforcement recruitment events in the agency’s history.
More than 3,000 job seekers participated in the two-day event, held in Northern Virginia, with over 1,000 receiving tentative job offers on-site. The results nearly doubled the department’s previous hiring record set in 2023. The turnout is a resounding signal that interest in law enforcement careers remains strong—even amid a wave of anti-police sentiment and increased personal risks to officers.
According to the official DHS press release, participants engaged directly with recruiters from multiple agencies under the Homeland Security umbrella, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Secret Service, TSA, and the Coast Guard.
The agency confirmed that, between January and May 2025, the number of applicants to the U.S. Border Patrol exceeded all prior records for any comparable five-month period. Similarly, the Secret Service has seen applications rise by over 200% year-over-year.
This surge coincides with policy shifts and a visible backing of law enforcement under President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. Both leaders have championed support for the badge amid political headwinds and reports of increased doxing, officer ambushes, and institutional pressure on federal agents.
The Expo served not only as a hiring event but also as a public display of federal commitment to restoring excellence across DHS divisions. In addition to interviews and background screening steps, attendees were offered guidance on the training pipeline and career growth opportunities within federal law enforcement.
