    The Big Picture

A 28-year-old schoolteacher from Springdale has been arrested and charged with the brutal killing of a married couple who were hiking with their children at Devil’s Den State Park. According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the suspect, Andrew James McGann, was apprehended on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, and is now facing two counts of capital murder.

    Arrest and Charges

McGann was taken into custody at 4:57 p.m. in Springdale, as reported by the Arkansas Department of Public Safety. The victims, identified as Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, were fatally attacked on July 26 while hiking with their daughters, ages 7 and 9. The children were not harmed and are now under the care of family members.

    Reaction from Officials

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement commending the investigators and law enforcement officers involved. She emphasized that Arkansas would not tolerate violent crime and praised the coordinated effort that led to the arrest.

“No news can heal the enormous harm done to the Brink family in last weekend’s crime, but this announcement is a comfort and reassurance for our State,” said Governor Sanders, as quoted by the Arkansas State Police. “Let there be no mistake – we do not tolerate violent crime in Arkansas.”

ASP Director Col. Mike Hagar also expressed gratitude to officers across local, state, and federal agencies for their round-the-clock efforts. According to ASP’s official report, their collaborative work made it possible to apprehend the suspect within days.

“Because of their hard work and investigative skill, we were able to take a monster off the streets, and bring relief to those two precious girls, and the rest of our citizens,” said Col. Hagar, quoted by ASP.

    Clarification and Ongoing Investigation

ASP clarified that an earlier release had mistakenly listed the suspect’s name as James Andrew McGann. The correct name is Andrew James McGann. The agency has not yet disclosed a possible motive, nor whether the suspect had any connection to the victims. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

    What’s Next

McGann remains in custody and is expected to face arraignment in Washington County. Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will seek the death penalty. Additional updates will be released by the Arkansas State Police as the investigation progresses.
