China Executes 11 Linked to Myanmar Telecom Fraud, Gambling Rings

The executions follow a Supreme People’s Court review of convictions tied to telecom fraud and gambling operations based in northern Myanmar.

China has executed 11 gang members who were involved in various criminal activities such as telecom fraud and illegal gambling rackets in northern Myanmar. The death sentence was given the green light by the supreme court of China, Xinhua reported on Thursday.

The Wenzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Zhejiang province in the eastern part of the country executed the 11 gang members after the review by the Supreme People’s Court, Xinhua reported.

The 11 convicted criminals were given the death sentence in September 2025 for various crimes such as intentional homicide, intentional injury, illegal detention, fraud, and gambling, among others. However, the Zhejiang Higher People’s Court rejected the appeal filed by the criminals in November 2025, affirming the original judgment and sending the case to the Supreme People’s Court for the final review.

During the review of the case by the Supreme People’s Court, it was revealed that the 11 criminals established operational bases in Myanmar as early as 2015 to carry out various criminal activities such as telecom fraud, illegal gambling, and various crimes, Xinhua reported.

The criminals also murdered, injured, and illegally detained people involved in the fraud and gambling activities, resulting in the deaths of 14 Chinese citizens and the injury of some people, Xinhua reported.

The execution of the 11 criminals comes at a time when the Chinese government is cracking down on cross-border online fraud syndicates in Southeast Asia, Xinhua reported.

The Chinese government has recently collaborated with Myanmar and some of the Southeast Asian nations to detain a large number of suspects involved in the crime syndicates and repatriate them to China for prosecution, Xinhua reported.
