Michigan Woman Wins $100,000 on Powerball Using Numbers She Got from ChatGPT

Michigan Lottery says drawing results are random; AI tools don’t improve odds.

A woman from Wyandotte, Mich., age 45, took home a $100,000 prize in the Sept. 6 Powerball drawing after she purchased a set of numbers she asked ChatGPT to generate, the Michigan Lottery said.

Tammy Carvey won four white balls and the Powerball — 11-23-44-61-62 and Powerball 17 — for a prize of $50,000. Since she purchased Power Play, the prize doubled to $100,000, the lottery stated.

Carvey bought the ticket online at MichiganLottery.com when the jackpot surged above $1 billion. “I asked ChatGPT to spit out a set of Powerball numbers and the ones I used on my ticket,” she said, the Michigan Lottery reports. She initially believed that she had won $50,000 until she realized Power Play had activated.

She recently took home the prize and plans to pay off her home and save the remainder, the lottery said.

The lottery explained that drawing results are random and could not be determined using artificial intelligence or other computer-generated number systems, the Michigan Lottery said.
