In a historic move, the US House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to remove Kevin McCarthy from his position as Speaker of the House . This marks the first time in American history that a Speaker of the House has been stripped of the gavel .

The vote was initiated by Republican Representative Matt Gaetz who introduced a “motion to vacate” procedure to replace McCarthy . The motion was passed with a simple majority of the House, and McCarthy was ousted from his position .

As of now, there is no new Speaker of the House. The House is currently in a state of flux, and it is unclear who will take over as the new Speaker of the House.

Majority Leader Steve Scalise (La.), the No. 2 House Republican, and Rep. Tom Emmer (Minn.), the House Republican Whip, have said publicly they support McCarthy . However, no Republicans have stepped forward to say they want to be speaker if Kevin McCarthy is ousted ⁹. Democrats say they would vote for Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) if he were to run for Speaker .

This is a developing story, and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
