The Austin Police Department on Tuesday identified the three victims who lost their lives in the mass shooting in the West Sixth Street entertainment district in Austin, Texas, in the early hours of Sunday, March 1, 2026, while confirming four fatalities, including the suspect, and 14 wounded.
The Austin Police Department confirmed the identities of the deceased as 19-year-old Ryder Harrington and 21-year-old Savitha Shan. The police has since confirmed that a third victim has also succumbed to their injuries and has been identified as 30-year-old Jorge Pederson.
Police identified the suspect as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, who was killed at the scene.

The shooting incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 700 block of West Sixth Street. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that the alleged gunman drove a large SUV around the block several times and then rolled down the windows and began firing a pistol at people outside the bar.
The shooting incident has sent shockwaves through the University of Texas at Austin. The incident has particularly shaken Assistant Professor Russ Finney, who teaches at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, as Finney confirmed in a tweet on X that Savitha Shan, who was killed in the incident, was “one of our superstar students” and was expected to graduate in May and begin her professional career at a top professional services firm. “Absolutely crushing to lose her. The area is usually thought to be pretty safe by our students, and I know others are in the hospital in serious condition.”
Ryder Harrington, the 19-year-old victim, has been mourned by his brother, Reed, who wrote in a Facebook post, “It is not fair that my brother was only given 19 years, and the world is robbed of a great future.”
