IDF Says Iran Security Chief Ali Larijani Was Killed

The Israel Defense Forces said Monday that Ali Larijani, whom it identified as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed.

In their announcement, the IDF characterized Larijani as the “effective leader” of the Iranian regime, explaining that “he is one of the most senior individuals that have influenced Iran’s leadership throughout the years. He is a close associate of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and is a key figure in Iran’s security apparatus.”

According to the IDF, Larijani “directly oversaw the crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran, and is responsible for the murder of protesters during the latest round of demonstrations.”

President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed Larijani as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in August 2025.

Earlier on Monday, Larijani issued a message, directed to “Muslims around the world” and “the governments of Islamic countries,” urging support for Iran and criticizing the lack of backing from many Islamic governments.
