Zelenskyy: Russia Fired 16 Ballistic Missiles, 280 Drones

Second strike hit rescuers at a university campus; Kyiv's South Bridge hit overnight

KYIV — A Russian strike on a university campus and the surrounding area on Monday evening wounded 12 people, and while rescuers were still working at the scene Russia hit it again with ballistic missiles, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post on X. The campus strike opened a night in which Russia launched 16 ballistic missiles and more than 280 drones across Ukraine, he said.

Five of the 12 injured are students and members of the university staff, Zelenskyy said. The second strike came as emergency services were helping people and dealing with the aftermath of the first.

Kyiv was hit overnight, with casualties and strikes including on the South Bridge, he said. Zelenskyy called it “a serious escalation in Russia’s operation against our logistics.”

The strikes also reached the Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Kherson and Chernivtsi regions, he said. Almost everywhere, he said, Russia’s targets were the energy sector, logistics and ordinary urban infrastructure.

Zelenskyy turned on the delays holding up Western air defense supplies. The prolonged delays in delivering interceptor packages for Patriot and NASAMS systems, he said, are “directly helping Russia achieve the objectives of its terrorist campaign.”

“Every such delay means another Russian strike on one facility or another.”

Strikes are taking place every day, and Russia keeps taking new steps toward escalation, Zelenskyy said. Pressure on Russia and real support for Ukraine are needed to change the situation, he said, thanking everyone who supports Ukraine’s efforts to protect lives and who understands why support packages must arrive on time.
