TEHRAN — Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Sunday that another war with Israel and the United States would not move Tehran off its current policies.
“Recently, there has been talk of a new war, but I am already thinking about the post-war period. Whether there is war or not, our policies remain the same,”
He pointed to the two earlier rounds of fighting. “They have already done so twice and have seen the results. If they want to try again, they know they will achieve no different outcome from those of the past,” he said.
Araghchi also said the Strait of Hormuz would not go back to the way it was before the war. The strait had changed in a fundamental way, he said, and so had the security picture across the region.
His remarks followed fresh threats from Washington. President Donald Trump said Friday that the United States “may do another little Epic Fury,” a reference to the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran that began Feb. 28. On Saturday, Trump told reporters the United States could strike Iran as soon as “maybe tomorrow” or reach an agreement instead.
Araghchi spoke at an event marking the opening of a documentation center and library at the Foreign Ministry named for the late diplomat Seyyed Kamal Kharrazi, according to ISNA. He said mediation efforts by regional and international parties, including Pakistan and Qatar, were all aimed at one thing: ending the war.
The end of the war, he said, had to come on all fronts at once. Talk of a new attack, he added, would produce the same result as the last two.
