Russia Fired 16 Missiles at Kyiv, Cut Power to 550,000 Families, Zelenskyy Says

Zelenskyy reports 16 ballistic missiles, more than 200 drones and damage to energy sites; Kyiv’s mayor details injuries and clinic damage.

KYIV, Ukraine — At least 550,000 families lost power during Russia’s overnight missile and drone attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday.

Russia fired 16 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the surrounding region, Zelenskyy wrote in a post on X. He also reported the launch of more than 200 drones across Ukraine.

More than 10 energy facilities were damaged in the overnight attacks, according to his account. Crews were working to repair them.

The ballistic missiles arrived in several waves, Zelenskyy wrote. He again said Ukraine received no early warning from its partners, without identifying them or explaining why no warning had been received.

Among the drones were jet-powered Shaheds. Zelenskyy described attacks in the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions, as well as Volyn, Rivne and Odesa.

His account listed strikes on energy facilities in 11 regions overnight and into Monday morning. They included Vinnytsia, Volyn, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr, along with Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Odesa and Rivne.

The damage went beyond energy sites. Zelenskyy reported that a medical clinic, a school, a metro station and residential buildings had also been damaged. He offered condolences to families and said the injured were receiving help, but gave no casualty total.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko put the number of injured in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district at five. One was taken to a hospital; the others were treated at the scene. His figures covered that district, rather than all areas attacked.

A blast wave blew out more than 200 windows at a consultative and diagnostic center in the district, Klitschko said in a later update. Doors, ceilings and medical equipment were damaged.

No patients were inside when the attack occurred, and no staff members were injured, according to the mayor. Medical workers were temporarily transferred to other facilities.

Virginia Times has not independently verified the missile and drone counts, casualties, power outages or damage assessments, or the claim that partners provided no early warning.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine had welcomed every effort by its partners to bring the war to a dignified end and had responded positively to every ceasefire proposal. Russia had repeatedly answered with missiles, drones and killings, he wrote.

He accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of refusing to end the war or take steps toward de-escalation, saying Ukraine’s partners had experienced Moscow’s refusals firsthand.

Zelenskyy also criticized what he described as blocked deliveries of air-defense missiles while Russia received sanctions relief or delays, calling that approach a “denial of reality” by Ukraine’s partners.

“The reality is that the war continues, and it continues solely because of Russian strikes and Russia’s desire to drag this war out,”

He urged partners to recognize Russia as the aggressor and help Ukraine protect lives, thanking those continuing to provide support.
