KYIV, Ukraine — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 100 different weapons since last evening, killing four people and injuring 41 in Kharkiv alone.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said the weapons included jet-powered drones, loitering munitions and ballistic missiles. A significant portion of those strike assets were shot down, but not all of them, according to the post.
An ordinary residential building was destroyed in Kharkiv, and first responders searched for people under the rubble virtually all night, Zelenskyy wrote. He offered condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed.
Zelenskyy described the attack on Kyiv as a particularly vile ballistic missile strike. According to his post, five missiles hit civilian infrastructure in Kyiv.
Ukraine received no early warning from its partners about the Kyiv strike, Zelenskyy said. He called intelligence on Russian ballistic missile launches one of the most critical issues, saying it helps save lives and prevent people from being killed.
Ukraine has not carried out strikes on Russian oil refineries or the energy sector in general for the two days since the American president announced an energy ceasefire, Zelenskyy said. Russia did not heed the American president, according to the post.
During that time, Russia attacked Ukrainian energy facilities and critical infrastructure, Zelenskyy wrote. He said the attacks sent clear signals that Russia has no intention of refraining from strikes on Ukraine.
In the two days alone, 19 regions of Ukraine came under attack, he said.
Ukraine’s position remains unchanged, according to Zelenskyy. It is ready for reciprocal steps toward de-escalation, but effective pressure on Russia is needed to make de-escalation happen.
“Wars end when the aggressor realizes that it cannot prolong the war.”
Global pressure on Russia brings peace closer, he said. Direct or indirect support for Russia, slowing assistance to Ukraine and making it harder to protect lives against ballistic missiles will certainly not help bring peace, according to the post.
Everyone needs peace, and a strong America, a strong Europe and strong partners are needed, Zelenskyy said. He thanked everyone who is truly helping.
