Overnight Russian strikes hit 10 Ukrainian regions, damaging homes, data centers, energy facilities and a Kyiv railway depot, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the country’s Defense Ministry.
In Kyiv, the attack damaged the depot at Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi railway station, along with data centers, business centers and residential buildings, Zelenskyy wrote on X.
In the Odesa region, strikes hit an educational institution, a dormitory and two foreign vessels. The Defense Ministry described the dormitory as a student dormitory.
The Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Volyn and Rivne regions also came under attack, according to Zelenskyy’s post. Energy facilities, substations, civilian businesses and residential buildings were damaged in those areas.
Neither post gave casualty figures for the overnight strikes. The damage reports could not be independently verified.
Ukrainian air defenses carried out successful interceptions overnight, including of ballistic missiles, the president wrote. He described those behind the attacks as “simply terrorists” who target people and purely civilian sites “day and night.”
Zelenskyy thanked the United States and Norway for the NASAMS air defense system and a package of missiles for it. He also thanked France and Germany for an air defense package delivered in recent days, which he said included missiles.
“Against the backdrop of Russia’s daily escalation, it is important that the protection of life receive continuous support and that such packages continue to arrive,” Zelenskyy wrote. The Defense Ministry’s post repeated the statement.
In separate posts, Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker said Russian strikes had hit Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv. It was not clear from those posts whether they referred to the same attack Zelenskyy described.
Sandu wrote that civilians were killed in strikes on civilian targets in Kyiv, Dnipro and elsewhere, though she gave no death toll. She called the attacks “deliberate terror” and said Russia must pay for what she described as crimes.
Stocker’s post said a clinic in Kyiv’s city center was also hit and described near-constant bombardment for days. Deliberately targeting civilians violates international law, according to the post.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed full solidarity with Estonia, which he said had just attributed to Russia responsibility for a fire targeting a defense sector company.
Germany did the same a few weeks ago over what Macron called a “very serious incident” at Leipzig airport, he wrote.
Macron described the growing number of such acts as a dangerous escalation by Russia. Russia will not prevail over Europe’s unity or its determination to keep supporting Ukraine, he wrote.
