CENTCOM Says Strikes on IRGC Targets in Iran Are Complete

U.S. Central Command said its forces completed a wave of strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran on Sept. 1.

Targets included air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites, according to the command. CENTCOM called the operation successful but reported no casualties, damage or target count.

The strikes follow recent attempted IRGC attacks against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members, according to CENTCOM. The statement gave no further detail about those attempted attacks, which have not been independently confirmed. There was no immediate public response from Iranian officials.

In its first announcement, the command said the strikes began at noon ET.

More than 50,000 U.S. service members are operating across the Middle East and remain prepared for further operations directed by the commander in chief, CENTCOM said.

The State Department urged Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance, citing the potential for unforeseen escalation and possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.

The advisory also warned that Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and Americans worldwide, including U.S. businesses.
