At 78, Dhanpati Baba Donates Rs 777,777 for Rasuwa Flood Relief

The Finance Ministry says the money will go to local governments assisting flood victims in Rasuwa.

At 78, Dhanpati Bhandari Baba arrived at Singha Durbar with a personal check for Rs 777,777 to support flood victims in Rasuwa.

At 2 p.m. on Bhadra 14, Dhanpati Baba reached Singha Durbar’s south gate after coming from Sinamangal. He told police, “I’ve come to give money to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund; please direct me to the place where I can hand it over.”

Police then took him to the Ministry of Finance. After waiting for some time, he entered the office of Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle.

Wagle asked Dhanpati Baba whether he wanted to make such a large personal contribution at age 78. The answer was simple: “Yes.”

The check marked his third contribution to the government. Each time, he has given the same amount: Rs 777,777.

After handing over the check, Dhanpati Baba explained why he had sought out the finance minister personally.

“After giving it to you, I feel at ease; that’s why I came searching for you.”
