Nepal Flood: Police Report 359 Bodies Recovered, 644 Missing

Separate police infographics carried 4 p.m. recovery figures and a 1 p.m. multinational missing list.

Nepal Police said 359 bodies had been recovered from the Bhote Koshi flood by 4 p.m. Thursday, while an earlier police infographic listed 644 Nepali and foreign nationals as missing.

The missing list as of 1 p.m. on Aug. 27, included Nepalis and nationals of 32 other countries.

In an update at 4 p.m., police said 8,348 police personnel had been mobilized and 28 remained out of contact. 63 people were receiving treatment at Kathmandu hospitals, police said.

Prime Minister Balen Shah wrote on Facebook that more than 15 rescue flights had operated since 6:30 a.m. He said the Nepal Army rescued 116 people from Timure — 95 Nepalis and 21 Indians — and seven Nepalis from a tunnel.

Virginia Times could not independently verify the flight or rescue figures. The supplied material does not show whether the missing list was revised after 1 p.m. or whether its total overlaps with the recovered-body or out-of-contact figures.

A local news outlet reported that Shah traveled by road to Bidur, Nuwakot, for a briefing from district and security officials on casualties, damage and search-and-rescue work.

According to Shah’s post, helicopter evacuations would prioritize critically ill people, older people, women and children.
