Drone Strike on Kherson Minibus Kills Four, Zelenskyy Says

Initial reports placed the Aug. 19 strike in the city’s Korabelnyi district.

A Russian FPV drone struck a civilian minibus in Kherson on Aug. 19, killing four people and wounding five, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Initial reports placed the strike in the city’s Korabelnyi district at about 8:50 a.m. They described those killed as four elderly women and said the wounded driver took the damaged minibus to a hospital with victims still inside.

In his X post, Zelenskyy said emergency services were at the scene and investigating. “What is absolutely clear is that the bus was civilian,” he wrote.

The same reporting said police opened a war crimes investigation into the strike. Virginia Times could not independently verify who carried out the attack, the casualty figures or the other reported details.

Zelenskyy described the attack as part of a Russian “safari” against people in Kherson. He urged Ukraine’s partners to provide additional defense equipment more quickly and increase pressure on Russia. He also thanked those continuing to provide assistance packages and impose new sanctions.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
