Five people were shot at Virginia State University early Saturday. One is in critical condition. The other four have injuries the university described as not life-threatening.
Officers reached the 3300 block of Boisseau Street at about 1:28 a.m. and found all five outside VSU residence halls, according to the university’s campus safety update. Each was taken to an area hospital.
In its first alert, VSU Police reported shots fired near the Quads and told people to avoid the area. The campus was placed on lockdown.
The lockdown held until 8:22 a.m., when the university announced it had been lifted. Officers remained on campus in force as the investigation continued.
Chesterfield County Police are leading it, assisted by VSU Police, ATF and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
The update named no victims and offered nothing on a suspect or on what led to the shooting.
