Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian forces had retaken 26 villages and 745 square kilometers of territory during an offensive in the Oleksandrivskyi sector from January through August.
In a post on X, the president said the villages were in the Dnipro, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. Ukraine’s Airborne Assault Forces and other military units participated in the operation, according to his account.
Zelenskyy reported that Russian losses included at least 9,550 troops killed and more than 6,600 wounded. Virginia Times could not independently verify the reported casualties or territorial gains.
The Ukrainian leader also wrote that the country’s “exchange fund” had been replenished, although he provided no figure. He described the operation as having gone “exactly as planned.”
Three military commanders briefed him on the results and next steps, according to the post. They were Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi, Chief of the General Staff Ihor Skybiuk and Airborne Assault Forces Commander Oleh Apostol.
The post did not identify the 26 villages or offer details about the military’s next steps. Zelenskyy closed his statement by praising the courage of Ukrainian troops.
