The Pentagon revoked former Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall’s eligibility to access classified information Friday and barred him from holding sensitive positions.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced the move on X. He accused Kendall of disclosing classified information about Air Force One’s capabilities to a media outlet and said the action took effect immediately.
“Safeguarding classified information is a non-negotiable duty,” Parnell wrote. “Those who violate that trust forfeit the privilege of access and any role requiring it.”
Kendall disputed the allegation in comments to The Associated Press. He said he was “completely mystified” and had always been careful not to reveal classified information. Kendall also said no one had told him what he was accused of disclosing.
This controversy occurred after the media covered a Boeing 747, which was offered by Qatar and modified for use by the president. Previously, according to The New York Times, Kendall had raised questions regarding whether every possible standard modification could be achieved through the speedy conversion process of Air Force One.
Kendall served as Air Force secretary under President Joe Biden from July 2021 to January 2025.
