FBI Director Kash Patel said a suspect is in custody after setting off an incendiary device outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York on Monday morning. Two people suffered minor injuries, Patel said, and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is now investigating.
ABC News reported the suspect has a history of anti-ICE activity and that video showed him pouring a liquid and igniting it outside the building, which houses an immigration court.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle said the suspect used fireworks to start the blaze, calling it an anti-government attack on a federal facility. Barnacle said the suspect carried an incendiary device, a pellet gun and a sign reading “ICE Off Our Streets.”

The two injured, a federal employee and a civilian, were treated and released, officials said. The building went into shelter-in-place as a precaution.
The NYPD said the suspect’s cart contained fireworks and airsoft rifles — differing from Barnacle’s account of a pellet gun.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident deeply disturbing and said his administration would support the federal investigation.
