The official White House TikTok account posted a video celebrating President Donald Trump and his administration set to Taylor Swift’s No. 1 single “The Fate of Ophelia,” Variety reported.
It’s an unusual pick. Trump has spent months attacking Swift in public. In a Truth Social post cited by Variety, he claimed her popularity had fallen after he declared his hatred for her.
Asked for comment, a White House official told Variety the administration made the video because it expected news outlets to amplify it.
“Congrats, you got played.” — White House official, to Variety
Trump’s attacks began shortly after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris in September 2024. Before that, Swift had publicly objected to Trump’s use of a fake image suggesting she supported him. He predicted the endorsement would hurt her music sales — a claim Variety said proved false.
In her endorsement, Swift described Harris as a steady and gifted leader. She said the country could accomplish more under calm leadership rather than chaos.
Trump last spoke about Swift in August, when she and NFL star Travis Kelce announced their engagement. He praised Kelce as a great player, called Swift a terrific person and wished the couple luck.
Swift’s representatives had not responded to Variety by the time it published.
