Iran Sends Response to U.S. War Proposal to Mediator Pakistan, Reports Say

Pakistan has reportedly received Tehran’s response as peace efforts focus on a temporary halt to hostilities

Iran has sent its response to a U.S. proposal aimed at ending the more than two-month war to mediator Pakistan, Iran’s IRNA news agency said Sunday, according to Reuters.

Al Jazeera also reported that Pakistan had confirmed receiving Iran’s response.

“The Pakistanis are confirming that they have received the Iranian response to the US proposal,” Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder reported from Islamabad. “Now Pakistan has received it, it will be important to see when it is communicated to the United States, and then to see the reaction from Washington.”

IRNA said Iran’s proposal calls for the current round of negotiations to focus exclusively on stopping hostilities in the region, citing a source familiar with the matter.

The arrangement would stop the war and let traffic through the Strait of Hormuz while the sides keep talking about a fuller agreement.

Any broader deal would have to resolve disputes such as Iran’s nuclear program that remain unresolved, Reuters reported.
