Ukraine Says It Hit Russian Oil Tankers, Kalibr Carrier in Port Strikes

Zelenskyy said the attacks targeted Russia’s shadow oil fleet and port infrastructure at Novorossiysk and Primorsk.

Ukraine said Sunday that its forces struck Russian oil tankers near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk and hit a Kalibr-capable missile ship, a patrol boat, another tanker and oil terminal infrastructure at the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an earlier post on X that unmanned surface vessels hit two tankers at the entrance to Novorossiysk. He said the vessels were part of Russia’s shadow oil fleet and had been used to carry Russian oil.

“These tankers had been actively used to transport oil — not anymore,” Zelenskyy wrote.

Zelenskyy said Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov led the Novorossiysk operation. He also credited counterintelligence officers from Ukraine’s Security Service and the Ukrainian Navy.

In a later update on X, Zelenskyy said Major General Yevhenii Khmara reported a successful strike against targets at Primorsk.

Zelenskyy said the Primorsk operation hit a Karakurt-class missile ship, which he described as another Russian “Kalibr” carrier. He said a patrol boat and another tanker from Russia’s shadow oil fleet were also hit.

The strike also caused significant damage to oil terminal port infrastructure, Zelenskyy said.

He said the Primorsk strike was carried out jointly by Ukraine’s Security Service, Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Defense Intelligence and border guards.

Russian officials confirmed a drone attack at Primorsk. They said more than 60 drones were downed and a fire at the terminal was extinguished. They reported no casualties and no oil spill.

Primorsk handles up to 1 million barrels of crude per day and accounts for roughly 40% of Russia’s seaborne oil exports, according to the source material.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine would continue developing long-range capabilities across sea, air and land.
